Job purpose
Elementary Teachers at Kaabe Schools are responsible for the academic, social-emotional, and character development of our students ages 6-12. Teachers use a student-centered approach to maximize the development of each individual student. They are expected to approach their work with professionalism and a true duty of care for the children.
Job duties and responsibilities
- School Culture.
- Foster a “Happy Workplace” culture in the classroom and school.
- Communicate politely and clearly with students and teammates alike.
- Model positive behavior for the children.
- Bring energy and focus to team meetings and activities.
- Participate in monthly Kaabe Schools Community Events (one Thursday a month).
- Aid in the planning and execution of community events as assigned by the Site Lead or ED/DD.
Academics
- Teach approximately 25 hours per week in a Montessori classroom environment.
- Help manage a classroom of approximately 25-30 students.
- Help manage a Montessori Assistant Teacher in coordination with teaching partners, Site Lead,
- and ED/DD.
- Create materials and lesson plans for all subjects.
- Implement Writer’s Workshop, Kelso’s Choices, (add other additional curriculums here) and other relevant supporting curriculums in the classroom.
- Implement a guided reading program.
- Observe, plan lessons, deliver lessons, and record progress of individual students in accordance with the Kaabe Schools Montessori curriculum.
- Facilitate classroom “circles” using the Kaabe Schools curriculum.
- Record student progress using the Transparent Classroom student information system.
- Prepare student progress reports using the Transparent Classroom.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers in planning and implementing lessons and preparing materials.
Professional Development
- Commit to continually developing as a teacher and individual.
- Work with the Montessori Teacher Coach, fellow teachers, and administration to improve as a teacher.
- Participate in monthly Thursday Learning Community PD sessions.
- Set goals and track progress with the Montessori Teacher Coach and Site Lead.
The successful candidate will
- Be educated to bachelor degree level.
- Experience working with children ages 6-12.
- Have an understanding of East Africa context, particularly education sector and fragile settings.
- Experience in student-centered environment with a strong emphasis on differentiation.
- Experience working with teaching partners in a classroom.
- Understanding of Montessori Primary Level Curriculum or willingness to learn.
- Ability to communicate professionally via email and other mediums.
