JCS is a bilingual school based in the beautiful, Caribbean mountains of the Dominican Republic. We are looking for enthusiastic and adaptable full-time teachers for the following positions:

Elementary homeroom teachers (Kindergarten to 3rd grade)

Elementary computing teacher

Elementary art teacher

Middle school science teacher

Middle school social studies teacher

Middle and high school computing teacher

Middle school and high school French teacher

High school social studies teacher

High School English teacher

Elementary homeroom teachers are the primary teachers responsible for their class. Homeroom teachers must teach English, maths, science, and social studies and there is flexibility in the timetable for each teacher to include special classes such as reading, music or life lessons. Teachers will teach approximately 4-5 lessons with 2-3 prep periods a day. This equates to approximately 16-25 teaching hours per week.

The elementary computing and art teachers are responsible for planning and delivering their lessons to different classes across elementary school (K-4th), teaching each class once or twice a week. They must also liaise with the homeroom teachers to ensure consistency for the students between classes. In elementary school, the children stay in their classroom and the subject teachers go to them. These teachers will have approximately 10-20 teaching hours per week.

Middle and high school subject teachers are responsible for planning and teaching lessons in their subject to all classes either in MS or in HS. Generally, MS and HS teachers are based in one classroom and the students rotate between their classes. Teachers will have an average of 4 classes per day which should equate to approximately 16-25 teaching hours per week.

Required:

TEFL/TESOL/CELTA qualification

Any degree

The ability to work independently

Enthusiasm

Flexibility and an ability to adapt

Preferred:

Degree in Education or a relevant subject

Experience teaching in a school

Proof of DBS or other criminal record check

While this is officially a volunteer position, our full time teacher (7:30 am - 4:00 pm) receive the following compensation:

RD$26,000 pesos (approx US$470) per month rising to 28,000 in the second year

US$100 country exit fee coverage (upon completion of contract)

US$200 flight reimbursement (upon completion of contract)

Christmas Bonus

Option to tutor after school for RD$300 pesos per hour

Please note that the average salary in the Dominican Republic is RD$15,000 so our compensation package makes for comfortable living.
