Located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, New Zealand University of Waikato Institute (NZUWI) is now seeking multiple applicants to fill Academic English Lecturer teaching positions within the English Foundation Program (EFP) of their Sino-Foreign joint institute with Hangzhou City University. The NZUWI is a modern learning facility, equipped throughout with Wi-Fi and touch-screen & peer-to-peer capable smart-boards. The NZUWI EFP uses current textbook and online-learning offerings from international publishers.
Academic English Teaching Post: Teach Academic English to college freshmen
N.B., PRC Employment VISAs for these positions are available only to teachers with passports from countries that the PRC government recognizes as having English as their first language; The PRC does not currently recognize India, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and The Philippines on their list.
Qualifications: Required MA/MS (Preferably in Applied Linguistics, ESL, or TESOL); tertiary-level Academic English-teaching experience; familiarity with APA research/writing style; familiarity with Blackboard or other LMS; high MSWord proficiency; moderate PowerPoint proficiency; moderate Excel proficiency; moderate LLM proficiency for curriculum development. N.B., Recent MA graduates in Applied Linguistics, ESL, and TESOL are encouraged to apply, irrespective of teaching experience outside their MA program intern teaching requirements.
Application and Start Dates: Applications accepted until 19 May for a 2023-2024 academic year start date TBD in the first week of September
Work Details: Teach a 16-week instructional semester and administer & score final exams during weeks 17-18; Teach a maximum of 18 45-minute teaching hours per week; Adhere to the assigned course outlines, syllabi, student assignments, assessments, and record-keeping (including attendance) for the course(s) taught; Participate in curriculum/course development; Participate in developing assessments and assessment rubrics aimed at standardizing course assessments and their marking and scoring; Mark and score assessments according to assessment rubrics; Participate in professional development meetings and classroom observations; Tutor and track—highly rare evening sessions (18:30-20:05) may be applicable—the progress of individual students experiencing difficulty with their English language development; Prepare and deliver workshops on library database searching and APA.
Contract: Initially, one-year renewable; full-time; second contract negotiable
Salary: For lecturers renewing for at least one academic year, 12 months paid at a minimum of RMB 20,000/month (pre-tax); For lecturers not renewing for at least one academic year, 11 months paid at a minimum of RMB 20,000/month (pre-tax)
